1. Keep germs at bay to prevent yourself from getting sick while on your trip.
Bring a travel pack of disinfecting wipes and use one to wipe down your airplane tray table, rental car surfaces, hotel remote and other items.
2. Download early!
Before you leave for the airport, download a movie or a few episodes of your current Netflix obsession to your phone or tablet. Doing this at home means you don’t have to wait forever as your download crawls along using the slower Wi-Fi at the airport.
3. Pack a few essentials.
It’s always a good idea to have some ibuprofen, antacid, anti-nausea tablets and allergy medication with you so you can make sure discomfort doesn’t keep you from enjoying your trip.
4. Keep a journal of your experiences.
Write down the places you visited, the laughs you had, the people you were with, the friends you made, the restaurants you ate at, and the memories you made. Your experiences will fade quickly once you get back to regular life, so it’s fun to have a record of the things you were feeling in the moment to look back on and reminisce.
5. Go with the flow.
It’s likely that a few of your plans will go awry – and that’s okay! Keeping an easy-going mindset can help you enjoy the experience even if things aren’t going exactly as planned. Remember, you’re on a trip to relax, not let the little things keep you stressed!
6. Use packing cubes to keep your stuff organized.
Packing your belongings into packing cubes can help you conserve space in your luggage and make it easier to find what you’re looking for when it’s time to get dressed for the day. These can also help you stay organized when you have to live out of a suitcase, and avoid forgetting anything when you’re packing up to leave.
You can find inexpensive packing cubes on Amazon or in the travel section at places like Winners.
7. Try something different.
More of a hotel and resort kind of person? Consider a hostel to help you meet fellow travelers or an Air BnB in a less tourist-y neighborhood to get a peek into local culture.
8. Follow your location on Instagram to see where other travelers have taken their most picturesque photos.
Check out the photos from other travelers in the area to see the spots they’ve scoped out for Instagram-ready views. You can also use location tags to find ideas for where to visit or places to eat.
9. Stay hydrated!
Between the dry air in airplanes and the potentially hot weather in your destination, it can be easy to get dehydrated while travelling. Bring along a reusable water bottle to quench your thirst during the day. Just make sure it’s empty if you have to go through airport security!
